Professor of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Lübeck, Prof. Dr. Stefan Borgwardt is also the director of the Department of Psychiatry & Psychotherapy in addition to the Department of Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at the Center for Integrative Psychiatry of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Lübeck Campus. Prof. Borgwardt has a broad range of clinical experience in crisis intervention and consultant psychiatry as well as in the diagnosis and treatment of psychotic, affective and neuropsychiatric disorders.

The focus of Prof. Borgwardt’s interdisciplinary research is on the early detection of mental illness. This is explored through the investigation of the brain-gut axis as well as novel pharmacological therapies, and translational psychiatric neuroimaging. Already having done research in Basel, Borgwardt’s aims to expand the understanding of the basis of brain processes and their interaction with environmental processes. Therefore, he focuses on interdisciplinary research projects in order to use these markers for the treatment of patients.
