Treatment of Severe Borderline Personality Disorder with Ketamine ‐ a Case Report
Abstract: In treatment‐resistant depression sub‐anesthetic doses of ketamine have proven effective whereas usefulness of ketamine in Borderline Personality Disorder ﴾BPD﴿ is unknown. We present a case report of a 20‐year‐old woman with severe BPD. She suffered from intense suicidal ideation and almost daily excessive self‐injury which even led to the loss of her leg. She received two doses of ketamine ﴾0,5 mg/kg KG﴿ within one week. Both, BDI ﴾‐38%﴿ and BSL‐23﴾‐25%﴿ scores were reduced and no self‐injury was reported during 1 month follow‐up. Our observation encourages evaluation of ketamine in most severe BPD within a – to our knowledge ‐ first randomized‐controlled‐trial.
