Abstract
Philosophy Section: Hybrid Workshop (Panel Presentation & Open Discussion)
As part of MIND’s Members Association, the Philosophy Section is promoting the development of philosophical perspectives on psychedelic experiences and their place in societies through several projects. One of these is a two-part event “Philosophies of Psychedelics: On Methods and Roles.” on this year’s INSIGHT conference, organized by the speakers of MIND’s Philosophy Section. The first half (approximately 60-75 minutes) will be dedicated to a presentation panel that will address the question of philosophical methodology with respect to psychedelics; more specifically, presenters will address questions such as, “What should a philosophy of psychedelics look like?”, “What should philosophies of psychedelics do?”, and/or “What are the most pressing questions in psychedelic research that philosophical inquiry could help answer?” All presentations will be provided by members of the Philosophy Section, drawing from their individual scholarly work and highlighting the diverse array and richness of philosophical voices and the of represented traditions from within the section.
After a short break, the second half of the event will be dedicated to a workshop encouraging participation from all visitors. Taking the panel presentations as models for philosophical discussion, participants will be divided into smaller groups to discuss their own perspectives and arguments concerning the role of philosophical thinking within psychedelic studies, the core issues and values that philosophies of psychedelics ought to address, and to extend or offer alternatives to the methodological models provided by the panelists. The central aim is to engage in comparative, collaborative, and critical dialogue necessary to the perpetual development and refinement of psychedelic philosophies of the future.
