Abstract

The INSIGHT 2021 opening talk will discuss the state, progress and emerging challenges of implementing psychedelics.  I will elaborate and conceptually connect three areas: (1) academic research and science communication, (2) mental health care and therapist training, and (3) cultural factors in the context of open societies. How can a maturing psychedelic discourse criticize undesirable developments and optimistically build and institutionalize responsible therapies and self-development? What is the role of a revised ethics of consciousness, Vergangenheitsbewältigung (coming to terms with your past) and a redefinition of “integration” in this process?
