The first of five moderated discussions to take place at INSIGHT 2019 will explore the larger picture of the current research on psychedelics and psychedelic states. Why is this new academic and non-academic research happening, who are the actors and which people, state institutions and non-academic organizations seek agency and influence? Questions will be raised that include clinical, scientific and cultural aspects.
How does the subjective and phenomenological side of the psychedelic experience relate and translate into the natural science or medical methodologies used in research? What are the ethical and public health implications of integrating psychedelics into a regulated treatment system? What is the place and status for non-clinical self-exploration in such a system? And how does this relate to the ethical and philosophical questions that we need to ask about these altered states of consciousness?
The three selected speakers of Thursday evening will be joined by people from the audience who are invited to add their – potentially different – views to the discussion.
The Roundtable will be moderated by Steve Paulson.
