Kenan de Leeuw is the chair of the Amsterdam Psychedelic Research Association and works as a neuropsychologist at Altrecht Neuropsychiatry, where he treats patients suffering from acquired brain injury and psychiatric disorders. Kenan has a personal fascination with the work of Dr. Jan Bastiaans, a Dutch psychiatrist who treated traumatized concentration camp survivors using his method of LSD-assisted psychotherapy. He has added English subtitles to the 1969 documentary “Begrijpt u nu waarom ik huil?” (Now do you get it?) by Louis van Gasteren, which documents one of these treatment sessions. This makes the film available to international audiences for the first time. His aim is to refamiliarize the psychedelic community with Bastiaans’ work by organizing screenings of this powerful film.
